Yesterday was my birthday. For said special day, I bought myself a Zune 8GB player as a present to myself. Yes, a Zune.
I’d downloaded the Zune 3.0 software out of sheer curiosity after hearing a few reviews. This video is a screen recording of a quick demo I made of the software (open the Vimeo page for more detailed info). I’m a Windows user, but I’ve always owned iPods and used iTunes for my music management/player needs. After using this version of the Zune software for a bit and signing up for the free 14 Day Zune Pass trial, I was hooked. There are a lot of things that still need to be improved in the Zune software and player, but there is nothing close to the sheer music discovery joy you can get in the iTunes ecosystem in comparison, so I made a musical sea change.
I’m currently in a position where it’s not a possibility to rip all of my music or maintain a huge database on my hard drive. The Zune Pass has proved a lifesaver, and I’m like a kid in a candy store - rediscovering my love of music and remembering the artists I’d forgotten… finding some new favorites along the way. If you use Windows, give the software and free 14 Day Zune Pass trial a go-round. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
