The Vines - Ride
I never gave much thought to The Vines. I was doing some research into Asperger Syndrome and they came up because the lead singer, Craig Nicholls, was diagnosed and is currently undergoing treatment for it. I’m not being flippant in the slightest, but this makes the band, and this video, much more intriguing to me upon this discovery.
I’ve always identified with the conditions of Asperger’s. I brought this up to my disinterested Psychiatrist, who gave my thoughts about 10 seconds of air time before telling me that my personality wasn’t “abrasive” enough, because that is what anyone he’s personally encountered with Asperger’s is like. This is the same doctor that had no problem prescribing me a daily 30mg dose of Adderall XR after I relayed my self-diagnosis of ADHD while trying to figure out how to cope with many of the symptoms I see in myself not related to said affliction. I’m not sure in the slightest, but I like to think he took his brief and uninterested notes during that session on an Adderall XR notepad.
Anyway, back to this video… it was directed by Michel Gondry, who’s always had a knack for seeing into the souls of the musical artists he’s directed videos for. I can’t imagine a better vision for a band with a lead singer with a then undiagnosed condition on the verge of insanity.
Well, at least that’s how I see it.
