Chat in your Tumblr?
a coding genius I am not. Sometime try this out or weigh the possible stalker/creepy factors.Am I going to regret this?
This was easy very easy to integrate on my Tumblr page, but it doesn’t work for me in it’s current implementation. First off, it seems that the only reliable way of using it is if you have the Google Talk client running on your computer.
As it is, you’re actually communicating both ways through a web interface. What that means is that when someone clicks to chat with you, it sends a message saying so to your client, but you then click a link within that chat to open a browser, log in, and communicate back through the same web interface that opens for the person trying to chat with you.
I use IM a lot on my phone, and it doesn’t work with any mobile client - including Google’s own mobile version of Google Talk (at least that I could figure in the short time I tried to get it working). I even tried adding chatback@talk.google.com to my contacts, but any time you initiate a conversation, it always sends that link to click to begin the chat session through a web interface.
It’s brand new, so it’ll probably change over time. I like the idea of it, just not it’s current implementation.
