Drop.io: Simple, Private Storage & Sharing
I think I heard about this service first here on Tumblr. I’m pretty sure it was either Marco or David that posted it - Drop.io is a NYC startup so that would make sense, but I digress… I’ve used Drop.io a few times now, and it really is too easy. It’s a great way for people to share stuff with you in a quick and easy fashion that fits perfectly with the tumblelog aesthetic. Sure, this could be done by simply creating a text post and sharing files via email, but c’mon… look at the shiny widget! There are two types of widgets, one where people can add “drops” (a repository of sorts) and a link widget that you could embed in a post for people to grab stuff from you. You can share much larger files of any type, which those who use Gmail know is not the case (have you ever tried sending an .exe through Gmail? Grrr). I created a general Drop for this site, and tossed in their handy widget at the bottom of the page. I just created the Drop and didn’t upload anything initially, which leaves me my whole 100MB free for content. Sexy.
