I received this note in the mail the other day with a few Disqus stickers after seeing this offer.  I never, ever, turn down offers for free schwag. I’ve been corresponding a bit with Daniel Ha lately (co-founder of Disqus along with Jason Yan) regarding various thoughts about their service - primarily after posting this when I reinstated Disqus comments here after having removed them for a bit. I’m still unsure if I’ll keep comments enabled because I’m still not convinced that they really fit with the feel of a tumblelog (especially one that no one follows), but if I ever start up a “traditional” blog again I know that Disqus will be the de facto comment system I integrate. Why? Because I really dig the idea of a distributed comment system. I liken it to OpenID for commenting - you have one centralized login that you can use to comment on any site that has Disqus integrated. You can track comments on your own site and those you’ve made on others from one centralized page, instead of trying to follow up by going to each individual site you are involved with either directly or indirectly. Unfortunately, like OpenID, it’s going to take getting sites to integrate it before users will see the potential benefits, but I think they can get a good foothold in the blogging community in time. The other thing that has me in their corner is the level of personal interaction and the willingness to listen and respond to their userbase. I’m sure that as Disqus grows in popularity it will be harder and harder for them to keep up the same level of interaction, but I wouldn’t put it past these guys to try their best.So these Disqus stickers aren’t going to go into the bottomless drawer of freebies - I’m going to stick them all up to show my appreciation for a great service. Thanks for the Schwag Daniel!
